November 13, 2023Master 22/4 Personal Year | A Year for Spiritual Undertakings
In numerology, we believe we experience nine-year periods of time called Personal Year Cycles.
I call knowing your Personal Year number knowing the theme to your party. You don’t want to show up at the wrong party in the wrong outfit for an entire year! (seriously . . . !)
We all feel this shift in energy, don’t we? We get restless toward the end of the year, as the New Year’s Resolution frenzy get underway.
Numerologically speaking, there’s a very real energetic transition that happens for each of us from year to year.
We feel this energy whether or not we understand numerology—or even believe in numerology. When you learn the theme to each Personal Year, you can align with the energy of the year rather than push against it. Know your theme and you’ll find that you have much more success throughout the year. Or at least you’ll be able to extract deeper meaning about why things are happening and how to make sense out of it.
Also note that there are two schools of thought regarding how to understand and experience the Personal Year.
The first school of thought and the most “popular” is that the Personal Year is a 12-month cycle that’s a calendar year. It runs from January 1 – December 31 of any given year. Also, the energy related to your Personal Year intensifies around your birthday. It also comes to a crescendo during the month of September. Numerologist’s Hans Decoz, Matthew Goodwin and many others subscribe to this way of calculating the Personal Year.
The second mode of thought is that the Personal Year runs from birthday to birthday, somewhat like a Solar Return in Astrology.
If you know my work at all, you’ll know that I’m someone who simply attempts to point out the different schools of thought and then the ball is in your court. It’s up to each of us to determine method makes the most sense to us and feels right or correct. I have clients who absolutely insist that the birthday-to-birthday approach is what feels correct for them and for their personal experience. And I have clients who feel the same regarding the calendar year approach.
It’s like anything else in life. People can get really adamant about the correct diet (keto? paleo? vegan? gluten-free? vegetarian? and on and on). In Astrology, some belief that being born on the cusp makes a huge difference, some Astrologer’s don’t believe in that at all. Who’s right?
You can go to different doctors with the same condition and get different courses of treatment. You can study Pythagorean numerology, or subscribe more to Chaldean numerology, or other modalities.
I don’t mean to belabor it, but it might surprise you how many people contact me and leave comments insisting that their particular methodology is the only right way to do it.
If you subscribe to the birthday-to-birthday way of thinking, you calculate this way: Using your birth date, add the MONTH + DAY + YEAR OF YOUR LAST BIRTHDAY
Just know that you’ll change into a new Personal Year on your BIRTHDAY, meaning that you’ll also change which Personal Year you read for your Forecast! This mode of thinking is more confusing until you wrap your brain around it.
So I just want to be clear. It’s up to YOU to determine what school of thought feels right to you. And it’s ends up being just that: HOW IT FEELS. Sit with it. Ponder it. Feel into it.
If you feel the Personal Year runs from birthday-to-birthday, the flow of it is a bit more wonky. Meaning: On your birthday, it switches gears and might feel as if it’s more of a dramatic or abrupt shift. And you’ll experience two different Personal Year number during a calendar year.
Remember also, when you’re in a Personal Year that has the same number as your Life Path, you’ll feel double indemnity from the slings and arrows of the year—you’re going to feel all the positives doubly. This also means that you’re going to be doubly challenged with the obstacles inherent in the year’s theme.
When you experience a Personal Year that is the same as your Life Path number (or another of your core numbers), the year offers you many experiences and opportunities to bolster where you might have a weak link that needs strengthening within that particular theme. This simply might show up as more intensity or more dramatic occurrences or experiences that revolve around the key themes of your year.
Calculate the Personal Year (calendar year method)
EXAMPLE
Take the date of birth: June 18, 2004
Use only the MONTH and DAY:
June is 6
Day is 18: 1 + 8 = 9
Then use the CURRENT YEAR (whatever it happens to be!)
2023 = 2 + 0 + 2 + 3 = 7
Now add the month, day, and current year together.
6 + 9 + 7= 22 This is a Master 22/4 Personal Year
Master 22/4 Personal Year | A Year for Spiritual Undertakings

In addition to the core elements of the number 4, you have the added intensity related to the Master number 22, offering additional challenges.
The potential benefits are enormous. Understand that the Master 22/4 is the most powerful number in numerology. It presents as The Master Builder and requires significant vision, focus, and tireless effort.
This Personal Year is quite intense and prods you to up the ante with your work and career goals.
It often goes hand-in-hand with expanding your enterprises and thinking bigger.
There are many challenges inherent in this energy, including devoting yourself to your work efforts at the expense of your personal relationships—or simply by placing emotional connections in the back-seat for now.
When you experience a 22/4 Personal Year, understand that you’re working with the foundational energies related to the number 4 and then with the double 2.
You’ll need a lot of patience and ability to “play well with others” and share the sandbox, so to speak.
You’re being called upon to step up your enterprises and expand—take a risk and think bigger.
This is just the nuts-and-bolts phase.
The key element for the success and smoothness of the 22/4 Personal Year resides in a strong and clear focus on wider-ranging service to others. If you concentrate whole-heartedly on altruism, on serving the greater good in some significant way, shape, or form—that’s when the magic happens.
This is a butt-kicking year, truth be told.
Understand that you’re simply setting things up and getting them in line. Most often the work coming at you requires depth and is wider-ranging than usual. It can bring even the hardest worker into the fatigue-zone.
If there’s ever a time to banish self-doubt and work at bringing your bigger ideas and aspirations into fruition, it’s now.
The point of focus will be on getting clear about what that is and what the long-range goal will be. It’s time to truly start with the end in mind. Don’t reinvent the wheel. This is a year that’s set up for getting real. As Dr. Phil used to say: “And how’s that workin’ for ya’?”
The 4 or 22/4 Personal Year can get a bad rap. Or at least it can metaphorically be viewed as the “icky” vegetables you must eat before you’re allowed to have dessert. It’s all about formulating goals and aspirations in a clearly defined and actionable way.
The 4 Personal Year is a marathon where slow and steady process is rewarded (eventually) over spontaneity and luck.
If you’re already an organized and achievement-oriented personality, the 4 Personal Year can be the time where you learn to roar.
Alternately, if organization, systems-building, and getting serious about your endeavors makes you either fall into a coma or drop everything and head out to extended Happy Hour—well. Then it’ll feel off kilter and you’ll befall a lot of grief in terms of feeling as though nothing is moving forward and everything takes much more effort than you think it should. It’s as though everything you’re doing is getting you nowhere. Even the simplest things turn into a huge cluster.
Sometimes it can feel difficult if you’re traveling a lot or if there’s a lot of activity since we think about “hard work” being like a ball-and-chain. Not necessarily so. You can make great strides in setting up foundations for your life and business by hustling.
It’ll all depend where you need the most bolstering—is your job okay yet your intimate relationship is a mess? Perhaps you need to commit to an actual home or geographical location. Maybe you’re in a place in your life where it’s all up in the air.
The energy of the 4 forces you to bring it down to earth in a practical, no-nonsense way. If you’re having a 22/4 Personal Year then all bets are off. This is a time for marked advancement with your enterprises and yet it won’t be a casual walk in the park.
