Write down the name you were given at birth—just as it’s written on your birth certificate. Use the chart (below) and apply a number to each letter of your name: first, middle, last. If you have more than one middle name, please use all of the names as they appear on your birth certificate.
If you’re a Jr., Second or Third, please leave that out of the equation.
Understand that you must use the name as it appears on your birth certificate, even if it’s spelled incorrectly or even if you spell your name differently than it appears on the birth certificate.
To be clear: Use the name as it appears on the birth certificate, even if there is what you would consider to be a mistake, like a misspelling or if your name were changed hours, days or years later.
Also to be clear: We are using Pythagorean numerology.
If you’re adopted and know the original name as it appeared on your original birth certificate, this is the name to use for this calculation—even if it’s “Baby Girl Anderson” or something of that nature. Of course, you’ll also calculate for your adopted name, yet the first full name given on the birth certificate—even if your name was changed a few hours or a few days after birth—still provides the information for your foundational numerology profile.
Personally and professionally, I find that people who have significant name changes—through adoption or other circumstances—have additional layers of complexity in their lives in terms of identity.
This number is the core of your Expression/Destiny and, while this name changes with a name change, the original name at birth will always be the foundational energy and mission you opted into this lifetime.
You can calculate the Minor Expression/Destiny number that’s based on your current first and last name, yet this is more of an “overlay” to your foundational birth name.
In numerology, when something is labeled “minor,” it indicates that it’s derived from the current first and last name, not on the full name as it appears on the birth certificate.
The current name offers an overlay of energy. It’s like placing a teabag in water—the longer it soaks, the stronger the tea. While the current name or a name change has bearing on your numerology profile, the original name is always going to indicate your ultimate purpose and pathway in this lifetime.
HOW TO CALCULATE THE DESTINY OR EXPRESSION NUMBER
Using the following chart, give each letter of your full birth name a number value.
Using simple addition, add the numerical values for each letter for each name (first, middle, last is most common). As always with numerology, you must continue to add until you come up with a one-digit number. The exceptions are the Master numbers (or Karmic Debt numbers, if you want to work on an advanced level of understanding).
Then add together the one-digit value for each name. The result is the DESTINY or EXPRESSION number.
Example:
Taylor Alison Swift
Taylor = 28/10/1
Alison = 25/7
Swift = 23/5
Then add 1 + 7 + 5 = 13/4
Taylor Swift has a 13/4 Expression or Destiny number
>>The 13/4 indicates Karmic Debt! You can read more about it here.
